Jake Schindler (he/him) is a composer, music director, orchestrator, and audio engineer in Toronto. He loves creating and performing new musical theatre.

With a degree in music education from Western University (London, Ontario), Jake is a new face in the Toronto theatre scene. In the past 6 years, he has been music director for over two dozen musicals in Toronto and London, as well as working as a music assistant and copyist on several productions.

As a composer, Jake’s original musical, Ursa: A Folk Musical, (written with co-collaborator Sam Boer) was just on tour—presented with Tweed and Co Theatre Company in September of 2022. Ursa was also showcased at the Queen’s University Watershed Festival twice in May 2022 and 2021, and premiered in the Toronto Fringe 2022 Next Stage Festival.

Jake’s initial full length musical, Where do we Begin?, premiered in London at the Spriet Family Theatre to a sold-out run. Additionally, his audio musical, The Light Goes Round, was featured in the Toronto Fringe audio offerings of their 2020 Community Booster.

As an orchestrator and copyist, Jake has most recently worked on Guildwood, a new musical by Braeden Soltys, bringing together lush and authentic orchestrations for an entirely actor/musician cast. Additionally, Jake has been a copyist and orchestrator for Boy Falls From the Sky (Mirvish, Dora Nominated), Killing Time (Mixed Tape Projects, Dora Nominated), Stars of Mars (Nightwood Theatre) and Super School (Bravo Academy), as well as orchestrating his own work.

During and after the pandemic, he has been the audio editor and engineer for more than 30 musicals and virtual-projects, helping everyone from young students to professional actors make virtual theatre.
